The Concordia Experience

Expectations of preparation, focus, freedom and experience.

Distinguishing Concordia from other colleges is really pretty simple. We’ve broken it down into what it takes to achieve a degree from Concordia, and how to make the most of your time here, so you know what to expect from your total experience.

It’s all built on a core curriculum focusing on liberal arts courses, and culminates with a capstone project that shows everyone you’re ready for the next level – be it the job you wanted or continuing your education. We call it The Concordia Experience – five pillars in all – wrapped in a nurturing, faith-based environment we’re dedicated to maintain.

It all adds up to the experience of a lifetime for our students.

The five facets of the

1. The Core

Explore the perspectives and develop skills that only a liberal arts core curriculum can provide for a strong learning foundation. We call this critical preparation the Concordia Core.

2. Focused Major

Hone your interests, develop a study emphasis, and select a major from one of several dynamic programs Concordia has to offer. Our advisors and mentors will map your individualized graduation plan.

3. Electives

Here’s where you can enhance and refine your studies at Concordia by selecting courses that complement your major. Choose the classes you want that support your major, broaden your interests – or both.

4. Experiential Learning

Every Concordia student participates in learning outside the classroom. Internships, fieldwork, study abroad, service learning and more are how at Concordia, experience counts.

5. The Capstone

The Concordia Experience culminates with a capstone project that represents the sum of your learning. This crowning achievement may take the form of a presentation, writing or research project.

The classroom

Experiential Learning is one of the most important components of the Concordia Experience. The “real world” experiences beyond the classroom impart deeper understanding and, in many cases, practical application.

We want you to immerse yourself in the subject matter. It may be abroad for a hands-on research project, or in one of the NYC ‘learning labs’ where the opportunities for discovery are as big as the city itself. These engaging experiences better prepare you for learning, prepare you for a career, prepare you for life.

Learning by doing: we not only believe in it, we require it.
